We aren’t just about being allies for LGBTQIA+; we want to be a safe harbor in the storm of all that is going on in our world.
We hold deep values that ALL people must be able to honor their values of autonomy and freedom, authenticity and genuineness, and love and connection.
Being a member of the LBTQIA+ community or questioning can come with fear yet, sadly, often real social stigma, rejection, abandonment, or isolation. Although cultural acceptance is growing, sadly, there is still discrimination and oppression happening in this community. This is a heartbreaking reality that must be acknowledged and stopped.
Yet, there is no way this is the end of the story.
We are fiercely committed to helping our clients feel like someone has their back and that there is hope for a rich, meaningful, and authentic life fully integrated with their sexuality and gender identity—a life with rainbow threads interwoven throughout!
If you want to work through difficulties with your family of origin, fully explore your authentic self and identity, spiritual or religious conflicts, and learn how to effectively navigate relationships at work and home, we’ve got you.
Always, our LGBTQIA+ clients are coming to their work with high intelligence, commitment, and dedication, yet often they struggle with things like:
Our clients often report struggling with:
The acronym LGBTQ means lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. LGBTQ has more recently been expanded to LGBTQ+ or LBGTQIA+, which often includes queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual.
Research has show that affirming care saves lives.
Numerous studies have found that affirming care leads to improved mental health among LGBTQIA+ youth.
In a 2020 national survey on LGBTQIA+ youth, 54% of young people who identified as transgender or nonbinary reported having seriously considered suicide.
Affirming care can be demonstrated in many ways.
For example, it would include a demonstrated commitment to using the client’s preferred pronouns and terms that feel most authentic to them.
It would include recognizing where the therapist does not have a shared lived experience and helping the client to feel heard and understood. It would also include a commitment to the therapist to fully explore those aspects where there are gaps in understanding and empower the client to give feedback on their thoughts and feelings easily in a trusting relationship.
Some possible benefits of individual therapy include:
Feeling more confident in relationships at work and outside
Feeling more confident in how your actions can improve your relationships without waiting for the other person to change
Enjoying better relationships with family, friends, colleagues, employees, and supervisors
Feeling more confident and less guilty about asserting your needs and limits
Better equipped to set healthy boundaries at work and in life
Being able to delegate and negotiate more effectively
Saying no to people whose behaviors have become toxic for you
