I’m Dr. William Hasek – a licensed, board-certified clinical psychologist with a background in organizational consulting. I specialize in treating ambitious working professionals, including business leaders, physicians, lawyers, professors, and graduate students. Common issues that I treat include:
Burnout and lifestyle fatigue
Work-life balance
Imposter syndrome
Parenting and caregiver stress
Communication and relationship issues
Career transitions (e.g. getting a promotion; closing a major business deal).
Confusion over career direction
Workplace minority stress
My approach to therapy is grounded in collaboration. I believe that you are the expert on your life and your experiences. I am an expert on behavioral science and the strategies that help people make significant life changes. Therapy involves us combining our expertise to help you resolve your major personal and professional challenges.
Authenticity and transparency are my core values. I believe that I owe it to you, to be honest about what I am observing and thinking. When I see you downplaying your strengths or not treating yourself with compassion, I am going to point it out and help you develop a new perspective. And when I see you avoiding accountability, I am going to call this out in a compassionate and empowering way and explore ways you can take ownership.
My ultimate goal in therapy is for you to become the best version of yourself possible and to make clear, intentional decisions about where you want your life to go. You can leave therapy having a greater understanding of the core issues you struggle with, where those issues come from, and what you can do to overcome them. You also can have a much clearer sense of your values and goals, the strengths that carry you through life’s journey, and an overall sense of confidence in who you are now and who you are becoming.
My consulting experience informs my approach to therapy. Over the course of my career, I have worked with a variety of organizations – including everything from small non-profits all the way to Fortune 500 companies. I have helped major organizations with hiring and promotion decisions for senior-level positions, including those in the C-Suite. This has given me deep insight into the way that companies evaluate candidates, and I can use that knowledge to help my clients position themselves for greater career success.
I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and spent some time living in the Midwest, but I currently live in Pittsburgh, PA with my wife, two children, and our beagle – Josie. In my time away from work, I am an avid runner, and I have a passion for cooking and painting.
I received my M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University. After completing graduate school, I underwent a year-long intensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with the Cleveland Cognitive Therapy Center. Following that, I completed my Board Certification exam with the American Board of Professional Psychology. In 2018, I trained as an executive coach with Duquesne University’s Palumbo-Donahue Business School.
I completed my pre-doctoral residency at Southern Illinois University and my post-doctoral fellowship at Washington and Jefferson College. I have experience working in a variety of settings, including universities, hospitals, community clinics, and private practice.
